TRAVELING: A KINETIC INSTALLATION BY KIM MIKENIS SUNDAY, MAY 15 - MAY 21, 2011 Reception- Sunday May 15, 2011- 2:00pm-4:00pm
A controversy is brewing in Atlantic Yards. Nine Brooklyn brownstones were excavated to make way for a NY Nets Sports Arena. This small-scale model represents 20 blocks that were in peril of being demolished, in this case, by a giant remote control operated basketball. The neighborhood is spring-loaded and resilient, as are the residents who continue to spring back up in opposition to having their homes replaced with a sporting arena. Traveling is a term used in basketball when a player walks while holding onto the ball possessively without dribbling or passing. This piece is meant to draw much needed attention to this issue and to promote the preservation of historic Brooklyn.

"Kim Mikenis creates beautiful, ephemeral environments that are both haunting and womb-like. Using audio, puppets, light, and other objects and contraptions, she will perform original stories for us, as we watch from within our fort. She'll be working hard, filling our heads with oddities, candy, and narrative splendor. This is a puppet show. The performance will begin shortly after 8:00pm and run for roughly half an hour. Happy Halloween, boo."

Via theatre, music, puppetry, magic and burlesque Professor von Awesome takes you on a high paced journey through the perils of ignoring the morals hidden in so-called urban legends.
Audiences will learn the truth about your favorite urban legends, how to avoid certain death, and leave the theatre with the ability live longer, fuller, if outrageously paranoid lives.
A new play with music written collaboratively by the Serious Theatre Collective, Professor von Awesomes Traveling Caravan of Cautionary Warnings will feature, aversatile cast lead by Mike Drummey, original set pieces by James J. Williams III, puppetry by Kim Mikenis, live onstage band lead by Tyler Theofilos, and song lyrics by Dan Collins.
